Jasper leapt up, bellowed at the top of his lungs,
“FIRE THE MISSILES!”
Gloriana’s eyes flew open and fire exploded in the core of the pit.
The reinforced hatch of Missile Tube 1 blasted clear from the steaming hull and the first missile barreled up and thundered out, DAA-THOOOSH! Gloriana screamed with exhilaration and pain at the crush of gravity; it seemed every drop of blood was yanked to the back of her skull. Her bullet-shaped missile climbed into the sky atop a pillar of orange smoke and pale fire.
