"Overdue" also describes this post, a little more than most in my case, since it's taken me so long to get a chance to read it. Well, that's one advantage of having the Beatles as my favorite band--they can no longer do anything (at least not collectively) to tarnish themselves in my eyes. Obviously the circumstances of your disenchantment had to do with a lot more than Maiden.

The Dakota birthday anecdote reminds me of the time Madame BOF bravely pulled an all-nighter so she could take Alexandra to a Rufus Wainwright concert and get her back to Cornell, where she had to be the next morning...then, after crashing for a couple of hours, drove us out to Long Island so I didn't have to miss a rare chance to hook up with NYF and our friend Dan (as, sadly, her absence this year has made me do this very day). WHY I LOVE HER, VOLUME XXVII.

Stellar reportage, stunning soul-baring, a vicarious thrill culminating in a happy ending and--not coincidentally--a worthy tribute to one of the greatest guys I know, who is truly the gift that keeps on giving. Bravo.

Do a find/replace with Maiden/Motorhead, and this post would work perfectly for me. Still searching for another live band that can take me to such heights as Lemmy & co. -- sad to say it hasn't happened and probably never will. However, you give me too much credit. You know that ole merciless is not a Maiden fan: I just asked since I thought you'd make the experience more palatable and enjoyable for me. Honestly, I was very surprised you wanted in knowing your current sticky situation.
